Coaching Philosophy

The Randy Lane Company Talent Development Program focuses on determining areas of strength.  By concentrating on the show’s strengths, many of the weaker areas will simply fade away.  In the words of the Gallup organization’s Don Clifton, “Focus on strengths and manage weaknesses.”

Our role as the show’s coaches is that of a facilitator who helps pull the best morning show out of the morning show players. The process will be centered on arriving at insights together rather than us telling them the best way to create and execute the most entertaining and engaging show.  We will be asking lots of questions so that the show has more ownership of growth points and in decisions we all make as a team.  When you come to realizations yourself, you will remember key points longer and they will be assimilated and put into practice more quickly.

Brand Depth is the Key to Radio Remaining Competitive

Deciding to invest in the development of your morning show gives your station brand depth, a marketing point of differentiation, and it provides great revenue potential in a difficult economic climate.  Morning shows that out-perform the radio station typically generate over 50% of the station’s revenue.  Personality endorsements generate the station’s highest rates and work wonders for advertisers.

There are two advantages that radio has over iPods and Pandora: engaging air personalities who can connect emotionally and on a local level. The proliferation of new on demand media is eroding time-spent-listening in radio and time-spent-viewing in television. PPM is also reflecting a sharp decline in TSL. Music accessibility will continue to be even more ubiquitous as technology advances.

Cohesive Teams Score Higher Ratings

In addition to improving what comes out of the speakers, we offer guidance with the interpersonal skills to work with talent and management behind the scenes. It’s no secret that a group of creative people often becomes dysfunctional; most show hosts lack the skills necessary to resolve conflict within the team.  The Randy Lane Company has mediation and talent counseling skills to resolve conflict and make your show cohesive and performing at an optimum level.  All members of our team understand creative people.  Our experience and background in mediation and conflict resolution includes The Artist’s Way program, The Forum and numerous seminars in human potential and psychology of creativity.
